CLASSIC CASES FOR LEICA

The manufacture of Leicas and Leica lenses involves a large amount of hands-on manufacture.  There are no assembly lines and certainly is no mass production.  While Leica offers an impressive line of accessories of similar quality, there are also a number of companies and individuals which do offer accessories of a quality that are worthy of Leica cameras.

One such individual is Paul Glendell and his company Classic Cases.  His main product line is totally handmade cases for the Leica M 240.  But he also offers M8 and M9 cases and all of them offer different options.  All camera cases, straps and wrist straps are hand crafted by a qualified saddler from best quality English oak bark tanned leather.  The handmade manufacture even includes all stitching by hand, something rarely found these days.  Hand stitching does not ‘run’ like machine stitching, so if the stitching is cut or chaffed through you cannot pull the thread and undo the stitching. Each stitch needs to be severed before it can be removed. This makes hand stitching much more secure and much less likely to break after many years of use.

In addition the cases, Paul Glendell also offers wrist and neck straps in both braided and standard versions.  These too are hand stitched for extra strength and security.  Of course the braided straps are carefully braided by hand.  The neck straps are available in a choice of three colors and are approximately 110 cm long.  Other lengths are available upon request.  The wrist straps too come in three colors.  The braided wrist straps are available in small and standard size with a length of approximately 20cm and 26cm respectively.  The standard wrist straps come with a wrist securing loop and are approximately 26cm in length.

  1. WOW Totally hand made. I would have expected the stitching to be done with a machine. It is good to see that some people still take the time to do things by hand.
